Melissa Moor School of Dance Policy

At Melissa Moor School of Dance, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where students can thrive. This policy outlines our expectations regarding safeguarding, behaviour, attendance, and other important aspects of participation in our dance school. By enrolling a student, parents/guardians agree to adhere to these terms.

1. Safeguarding Policy

 

We prioritise the safety and well-being of every student. Our safeguarding practices ensure a secure and supportive environment.

1.1 Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Melissa Moor is the DSL responsible for ensuring all safeguarding policies are upheld. Concerns can be raised directly with her via email or phone.

1.2 Child Supervision

  • Students under 16 must be accompanied to and from the studio by a parent or authorised guardian.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for their children outside class times.

 

1.3 Reporting Concerns
Any concerns regarding a child’s safety should be reported immediately to the DSL.

 

1.4 Photography and Social Media

  • Photographs and videos may be taken during classes and performances for promotional purposes.

  • Consent will be requested upon registration. Parents may opt out by notifying the school in writing.

 

1.5 DBS Checks
All staff working with children are fully vetted and hold up-to-date DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks.

 

2. Behaviour Policy

 

2.1 Student Expectations

  • Students are expected to be respectful to teachers, staff, and fellow classmates at all times.

  • Disruptive behaviour, bullying, or inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated and may result in suspension or expulsion from the school.

 

.2 Parent/Guardian Expectations

  • Parents/guardians should communicate respectfully with staff and refrain from disrupting classes.

  • Concerns or complaints should be raised privately with the school via email or phone.

 

2.3 Classroom Etiquette

  • Students must arrive on time, dressed in the appropriate uniform, and ready to participate.

  • Mobile phones are not permitted during class time.

 

3. Attendance and Punctuality

 

3.1 Attendance

  • Regular attendance is crucial for progress.

  • If a student cannot attend, parents/guardians must notify the school as soon as possible.

 

3.2 Late Arrivals

  • Students arriving late may disrupt the class and, at the teacher’s discretion, may not be permitted to join.

 

4. Uniform Policy

 

4.1 Dress Code

  • Students must wear the prescribed uniform for their class, including appropriate footwear.

  • Hair should be neatly tied back, preferably in a bun for ballet classes.

4.2 Jewellery

  • For safety reasons, jewellery must not be worn during classes.

 

5. Health and Safety

 

5.1 Medical Information

  • Parents/guardians must disclose any medical conditions or injuries upon registration and keep the school updated.

  • Students who are unwell or injured should not attend classes without prior discussion with the teacher.

 

5.2 Emergencies

  • In case of an emergency, parents/guardians will be contacted using the details provided at registration. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure contact details are up to date.

 

5.3 Studio Rules

  • No food, chewing gum, or drinks other than water are allowed in the studio.

  • Students must respect studio property and equipment.

 

6. Communication Policy

 

6.1 Contact Details

  • All communication will be sent to the email address provided during registration. Please inform the school of any changes.

 

6.2 Newsletter and Updates

  • Important updates will be shared via email and our website. Parents are responsible for staying informed of all notices.

7. Fees and Payments

 

7.1 Payment Terms

  • Fees must be paid in advance for the term. Invoices will be issued before the term begins.

  • Late payments may result in a suspension of the student’s place in the class.

 

7.2 Refunds

  • Fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the school.

8. Performance and Exam Policies

 

8.1 Performances

  • Participation in performances is encouraged but not mandatory.

  • Parents will be notified of additional costs for costumes or tickets in advance.

 

8.2 RAD Exams

  • Exam participation is based on the teacher’s recommendation.

  • Additional fees apply for exam entries, which must be paid before the exam date.

 

9. Data Protection and Privacy

 

9.1 Data Use

  • Personal information collected during registration will be used solely for administrative purposes and will not be shared without consent.

9.2 Mailing List

  • By registering, parents/guardians agree to be added to our mailing list. You may unsubscribe at any time.

 

10. Cancellation Policy

 

10.1 Class Cancellations

  • If the school needs to cancel a class, parents will be notified as soon as possible, and a make-up class will be arranged.

 

10.2 Withdrawal

  • If a student wishes to withdraw, one month’s written notice is required.
